iVolt signs multi-million pound contract with Morrisons

iVolt-Neil-Underwood-at-MorrisonsSupermarket giant Morrisons is set to save hundreds of thousands of pounds a year after choosing to install iVolt’s voltage optimisation technology in 50 of its stores.

The move is part of a major national initiative by Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc to reduce its operational carbon emissions by 30% by 2020. Because it works by stabilising the stores’ incoming power supply, the system will also protect hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of equipment, cutting maintenance costs in the longer term.

Head of Energy at Wm Morrison Supermarkets plc Stuart Kirk said: “We’re investing significantly in energy efficient technology at Morrisons. In 2005 we set ourselves a target of reducing our carbon emissions by 30% in absolute terms by 2020 and, despite huge business growth, we’re already halfway towards meeting that aim. We installed iVolt units in ten stores earlier this summer and were pleased with the resulting reduction in carbon emissions. The applicable stores have seen an average reduction in energy usage of around 8% and we’re hoping to see these savings replicated as we roll out across a further 40 stores in time for the Christmas trading period. We are also surveying the rest of the portfolio to find applicable sites for a further roll out of this technology in 2013 in conjunction with other energy saving initiatives.”

The ‘fit and forget’ technology was introduced to Morrisons by RPP Energy Services Ltd, which advised on the most effective options on the market and project managed the installations. Together, iVolt and RPP now hope to work with the supermarket chain to roll out the state-of-the-art technology across the rest of its portfolio.
