Drayson Racing smash world record with electric car showcased by iVolt at energy event

An electric car showcased by iVolt at an exhibition in London has beaten the World Electric Land Speed Record with a speed of 204.185mph.

The team from Drayson Racing, who joined iVolt at the Energy Solutions event at Olympia in October, travelled to Elvington Airfield in Yorkshire to better the previous record by 29.2mph.

The car – an electric Le-Mans Prototype called the Drayson B12 69/EV – was driven by former science minister, sustainable technology champion and racing driver Lord Drayson, who said: “I’m delighted we’ve beaten the record tonight and can show the world EVs can be fast and reliable. Drayson Racing is a laboratory for EV technology, testing it to the most extreme level, as we’ve seen today.”

“It is not the outright speed of 203mph that is most impressive about this record, but the engineering challenge of accelerating a 1000kg electric vehicle on a short runway over a measured mile.”

Fellow racing driver Manhal Allos, iVolt’s founder and MD, races a Radical SR8.
